Russia works to strengthen its space surveillance capabilities
The Russian army is upgrading its space surveillance network to detect objects as small as 8 cm in Earth orbit, a military officer said on Saturday.
Once the technological upgrade is completed, Russian equipment will be able to locate such small objects in space, " said Anatoly Nestechuk, chief of staff of the 15th Army of Russian Aerospace forces, quoted by Sputnik news agency. Currently, the 15th Army of Russian Aerospace forces can detect 20 cm space objects, and according to Mr. Nestechuk, there are more than 80,000 pieces of space debris in Earth orbit.
