Damascus plunged into darkness following an explosion south of the capital
The entire Syrian capital was left without power following a" terrorist attack " on a gas pipeline supplying two power plants, Sana news agency reported.
However, the breakdown was quickly repaired. An act of sabotage targeting a gas pipeline south of Damascus caused a blackout in the Syrian capital on Friday (September 17), Electricity Minister Ghassan al-Zamel said.
In an interview with the official Sana news agency, he said that a" terrorist attack " involving explosive devices had targeted the pipeline supplying power plants in Tichrin and Deir Ali.
The latter provides more than 50% of Syria's energy needs. According to Mr. Zamel, repair work was quickly completed on the damaged pipeline, which allowed the return of electricity to all governorates of the country.
