UN: serious Syrian warning to the US

Before the Security Council, the permanent ambassador of Syria to the United Nations said on Monday, 30 September, that the end of the illegitimate presence of foreign forces in Syria is the sine qua non for the success of any political process in his country.

In cooperation with the UN envoy for Syria and in coordination with his Russian and Iranian friends, Damascus succeeded in forming its constitutional committee, said Syria's permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Bashar al-Jaafari, who welcomed a " national acquis ". "The constitutional committee was formed in spite of attempts by belligerent countries to obstruct this process," he said. According to the Syrian News Channel Al-Akhbariya, the Syrian ambassador to the United Nations also stressed the important role and perseverance of President Bashar al-Assad in achieving this success.

"The constitutional committee will act in complete independence ; no other country or party can afford to interfere in the activities of the committee", said Bashar al-Jaafari, before reiterating that in order for any political process in Syria to succeed, the illegitimate presence of American, British, French and Turkish forces in that country must end.

"Only the Syrians have the right to discuss their Constitution, without allowing any foreign interference or attempt to blackmail countries that do not want Syria to regain its stability," added the Syrian ambassador. "The functioning of the Constitutional Committee is based on full respect for the sovereignty, unity and independence of Syria," said Bashar al-Jaafari.

"Syria will take back from the terrorists every inch of its territory and put an end to the illegitimate presence of foreign forces with the launch of the process of political settlement of crisis in the country," the Syrian diplomat added before the UN Security Council. "Those who do not want the Syrian crisis to be resolved by political means are doing everything to hinder the functioning of the Constitutional Committee ; the false accusations of involvement in chemical attacks are part of this same framework", according to Bashar al-Jaafari.

The Syrian ambassador to the United Nations also and above all called for an end to the bilateral economic restrictions imposed by the United States, the European Union and some other countries on the Syrian people.
